How import clearance works, from booking to your door. In 2024 the average container at Alexandria took 8.6 days to leave the port, while published free time is often only 5–6 days. The gap is closed before the ship arrives.

The drawing follows container GPLU 210521 2 through the nine stations. A free-days clock starts when the container is discharged at Alexandria; in this illustration it is cleared, delivered and returned empty inside five free days. Free days vary by shipping line and port.

    ACI pre-registration on Nafeza

    48hBefore the cargo leaves origin

    Before loading, the shipment is registered on Nafeza, Egypt’s trade single window, and gets a 19-digit ACID. Your supplier uploads the documents on CargoX. No ACID, no clearance.

  3. Station03

    Pickup at origin

    SealedContainer and seal numbers recorded

    The cargo is stuffed at your supplier’s door, the container is sealed and trucked to the port of loading.

  4. Station04

    Port of loading

    B/LIssued with your ACID on it

    The container is gated in and loaded on board. The bill of lading is issued, and it must carry the ACID, or the goods cannot be cleared in Egypt.

  5. Station05

    At sea

    0 daysOf free time used at sea

    While the ship sails, the paperwork gets settled. Names, HS codes, values and weights must match across the ACID, invoice, B/L and certificate of origin.

  6. Station06

    Arrival at Alexandria

    Day 0Free time starts at discharge

    The vessel discharges at Alexandria or Dekheila, or at Sokhna, Port Said or Damietta, and the free-time clock starts. Since June 2026, clearance can start on arrival without waiting for the line’s delivery order.

    Declaration & inspection

    We file the customs declaration electronically. Customs examines the cargo where required, along with any agency checks your cargo needs.

    Duties paid & release

    Line by lineEvery amount shown before it is paid

    We pay duties and VAT on your behalf, or you pay directly. Either way you see every amount before it is paid. Then the container is released.

    Truck to your door

    DeliveredEmpty back to the depot inside free time

    We truck the container to your factory or warehouse, or to ours, and return the empty to the line’s depot before free time runs out.
